Club Nacional de Football of Uruguay defeats the St. Louis All-Stars, 4-1, before 6,500 fans at St. Louis U. Field. The winners include nine players from the Uruguay team that won the 1924 Olympic gold medal, considered the world championship at a time when there was no World Cup. One of those gold medalists, Hector Scarone, scores three goals in St. Louis. Eddie Hart, a second-half substitute, scores the All-Stars’ goal. Future U.S. Soccer Hall of Fame journalist Dent McSkimming will report in the St. Louis Athlete that Uruguayan players said that “St. Louis players play harder soccer than anywhere else we have been” on Uruguay’s U.S. tour. Uruguay will win the 1928 Olympic gold medal and the first World Cup, held in 1930.
