Vedad Ibisevic kicks off the Bundesliga season with a bang, scoring the game’s first goal in the 16th minute and last goal in the 76th minute as newly promoted 1899 Hoffenheim beats Energie Cottbus, 3-0. Ibisevic, who moved to St. Louis as a teenager with his family from Bosnia and Herzegovina and played one season at St. Louis University, will be a prolific scorer in the Bundesliga, netting 127 goals, tying him for 27th all-time in the league. He also will score 28 goals in 83 appearances for Bosnia and Herzegovina from 2007-2018, including his nation’s first-ever World Cup goal in a 2-1 loss to Argentina in 2014. Trivia: Ibisevic was ejected near the end of Hertha Berlin’s 3-2 loss to Dortmund on March 16, 2019, for throwing a ball that hit the head of Dortmund goalkeeper and current St. Louis City goalkeeper Roman Bürki.
