November 4 (2018)
With her team trailing, 4-1, with 8 minutes left and with only 10 players after Sarah Carroll’s second yellow card, St. Louisan Alyssa Mautz ignites a miracle. Her goal on a left-footed shot off an assist from Sam Kerr starts Perth Glory on an amazing comeback in an Australian W-League match with Canberra United. Leticia McKenna makes it 4-3 with a goal in the 87th minute. An own goal by Rachel Corsie off a shot by Kerr in added time brings Perth level and earns a point in a match that Camberra seemingly had locked up. Mautz’s goal is her second in as many games for Perth. On loan in the NWSL off-season from the Chicago Red Stars, Mautz will score five goals in 13 games, including two in a match on Nov. 25, in the W-League’s regular season. She will tally again in the league championship game on Feb. 16 as Perth loses, 4-2, to Sydney FC. Mautz will play her final professional game on July 30, 2022, with the Red Stars to become assistant women’s soccer coach at Texas A&M, where she played after transferring from St. Louis U. She will retire with more games played (143) in the NWSL than any other St. Louisan except Becky Sauerbrunn, and will score more NWSL goals (16) than any other St. Louisan.
