Sept. 18 (2007)

St. Louisan Lori Chalupny scores the second-fastest goal in Women’s World Cup history on an assist from Abby Wambach just 57 seconds into a group stage match against Nigeria in Shanghai, China. Chalupny settles Wambach’s header and right-foots a shot from close range that deflects off a defender into the near corner. Chalupny’s goal is the only one of the game. She will finish the 2007 World Cup having started all six of the USA’s matches and will score another goal in the USA’s 4-1 win over Norway in the third-place game on Sept. 30. Her goals in the 2007 World Cup are two of the 10 she will score in her 106 caps for the United States from 2001-2015.
